The Calm Between the Waves

If you have ever stood on the beach and let the waves wash in and out over your feet – it can seem like a never ceasing and uninterrupted flow of water moving in and out. One wave crashes in and stirs up the sand and silt to the point where you can’t even see your feet and then washes out; pulling at you before the next wave crashes in. But there is a moment of calm between one wave coming in and rushing out and the next…as the water rushes out- there is a brief moment of clarity – the swirl of sand stops, the water becomes transparent, you can see clear down to your toes and all is calm…then the next waves crashes in, stirring it all up again.

Life is often like that, a constant push and pull of events stirring up the waters; a never ending tide of demands, responsibilities and obligations. But there are brief moments in between one event crashing in and rushing out and the next – small moments of calm when all is clear to you; moments of clarity. Those are the moments you prize, get your bearing, recover your balance and get ready for the next wave to hit.
